Maintaining a safe educational experience.
Our organization is committed to providing an educational experience to marching band students in the region. While we work to preserve this opportunity for students to perform, we are also working to ensure the health and safety of all participants and volunteers. As a result — and out of an abundance of caution — the 2020 event was modified.
2020 Event Modifications
No Parade
Due to the difficulties of adequate spacing during parade staging and performance for both performers and spectators, we decided to cancel the 2020 parade event.
No Onsite Spectators
To keep the highest standard of environmental safety protocols in place to protect all participants, in 2020, spectators will not be allowed at Howard Wood Field.
Scoring Format
The 2020 field competition featured a festival-style rating system. All participating bands were rated either “Superior” or “Excellent.” Caption awards were also presented by class in the areas of Drum Majors, Winds, Percussion, and Guard. Each band had one performance time; there was no finals competition. All participating bands received recorded feedback.
Event Live Stream
We are excited to share that a live stream of the 2020 event was made available online for all parents, fans, and Festival of Bands supporters to watch participating bands take the field.
